I like to think that I am a hard-working and efficient student when it comes to school. However, this statement only applies from the beginning of the school year to the end of spring break. After spring break, everything goes downhill... Once I go back to school from spring break, my motivation plummets. This is a graph that shows my motivation levels throughout the school year: My intelligence is at the same level as before spring break; however, my motivation to actually study or do homework falls. I come home from school and immediately watch YouTube videos or do other pointless activities for hours on end.
Before, I would actually have the motivation to get my homework done so I could relax in the evening. Now, I just cannot start my homework, or it takes huge amounts of energy to start it. I always make excuses, saying to myself statements such as, "Oh that won't take me long to finish," or "I can study in first hour if need-be," when, in reality, I know that the homework assignment is going to take a long time, and studying in first hour is not a viable option. But why do I still do it even though I know it is bad? I am lazy. Instead of my brain realizing that there are only a couple months left in school and that I should finish strong, my brain realizes that there are only couple months left, and I slack off. What? Where is the logic in that? Come on now, brain, get it together... I did the same thing last year and freshman year too; however, I never really noticed it. It was this year after a few bad test scores that I realized that this is the point in time when I break as a student. Overall, I learned about my academic motivation at certain times in the school year. Now that I have recognized my flaw in motivation, I will try extra hard to make sure my motivation stays at the same level, or progresses even higher than it was in the beginning of the school year.

Hey Dan, I really enjoyed reading your blog post. I think it is really great how you made a graph to show your motivation throughout the school year. I would agree that it is hard to come back from spring break and have the motivation to finish strong. It especially did not help that we had the SAT the second day we got back. After that week of testing, I was drained for the next week. Then came AP tests and everything was just so stressful. I also struggled with my motivation throughout the year and what I am going to try and do next year is start studying for things at the end of the year early, so that when my motivation drops, I will already be somewhat if not mostly prepared for the big tests at the end of the year. Senior year will especially be hard to keep going at the end of the year so I think this method will be crucial to end our high school careers strong. Have a good summer!
